DAY 3: GORILLA TREKKING

Today is a definite highlight – guaranteed to leave you in awe! After breakfast you take a short walk to the briefing centre. After collecting kit, which includes walking sticks, guides, a packed lunch and plenty of drinking water, you start the trek through the rainforest and bamboo covered slopes, accompanied by a guide and trackers, in search of a mountain gorilla family. The walk can be long and challenging, however, a glimpse of the magnificent silverback is the ultimate reward! When sighted, visitors are guided to within 6 metres of the gorillas to quietly observe them.

Return to the lodge in the afternoon and in the evening guests take a guided walk to the nearby communities around the lodge. This is a chance to learn more about the culture and traditions of this small community.

DAY 4: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Depart by road for the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the morning. On arrival, lunch awaits you, followed by a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel to experience the stunning array of wildlife. Here, you have an excellent chance to view a diversity of animals at very close proximity. On return, a delicious breakfast before transferring to Crater Safari Lodge, nearby to Kibale National Park. A brief stop at some of the tea estates en route is a must. Take a late lunch and inspect the lodge in the evening.

DAY 6: CHIMPANZEE AND PRIMATE TREK – KIBALE

After breakfast and a 40-minute drive, guests will go for a day of hiking through the Kibale Forest in search of chimpanzees and other primates. Kibale is inhabited by three large ‘communities’ of chimps, each numbering more than 100 individuals and with a complex social structure.

Chimps are very social, highly vocal, communicating with a large variety of sounds and gestures. The excitement as the whole group suddenly bursts into a cacophony of wild hooting is most entertaining.
