With the migration arriving early in the Masai Mara this year, the Karen Blixen Camp has prepared itself for a busy season by completing extensive refurbishments to the camp.
Significant improvements to camp have been made to ensure it maintains its reputation to offer excellent value and the highest standards of accommodation, service and ecotourism in Africa’s ultimate wildlife destination.
A new water system
The camp’s water supply system was re-piped to improve water pressure throughout the camp.
New kitchen-ware has been installed and a new Head Chef, supported by a Danish Assistant Chef, maintain the high standards and varied cuisine.
The main canvas faces of some of the luxury tents have been replaced to ensure the tents look fresh. Additional improved lighting has been installed around the dressing mirrors in bathrooms, floors have been re-varnished, as well as other general improvements.
Guest Lounge, Restaurant and Bar
The guest areas have been refreshed with new lighting and sofa cushions and covers and wooden floors have been re-varnished.
Swimming Pool and Spa
The spa and massage tent has been relocated nearby to the swimming pool. This is in response to guest feedback highlighting the desire to combine these leisure activities. All pool equipment has been replaced, guaranteeing guests a clear sparkling pool at which they can relax during the heat of the day.
The impressive solar system has been completely overhauled. As an eco-camp, it was considered essential to re-invest in the solar system to ensure that almost all operations, including all heating and lighting continues to be run on renewable energy.
Open Safari Vehicles
All of the camp’s open-sided, specially customised safari Land Cruisers have been refurbished with reinforced welding, fresh paintwork, new seat covers and side canvases. Two new vehicles have also been purchased.
The access road from the main Lemek-Aitong-Mara Rianta Road has been graded and murram-compacted, improving guest access to the camp and to the Masai Mara National Reserve entrance for full-day safaris.
Wi-Fi Gazebo House
A new guest area has been constructed where guests can sit to access internet and emails. The free Wi-Fi service is popular with guests, particularly businessmen and women wishing to remain in contact during their stay.
Karen Blixen Camp has fixed its 2014 rates for 2015, ensuring exceptional standards at excellent value.
